Yes rename rule must be simple just add a number which may be negative or positive.

With hierarchical name a number is added in the middle to a sub sheet number. Otherwise a number is added to each refdes and in this case it is up to the user to choose a suitable numbering scheme so this will work, hierarchical refdes flattening is also possible.
