To summarize: we'd like to expand what PCB can support, but the
current file format is "fixed" in that it can't import "unknown" data
structures. So if/when we add stuff to pcb's data model, we'd need to
change the file format *anyway*, so it's an opportunity to pick
something better than just extending what we have.
Of course, it's all just talk until we have a committment to actually
do the work.

Software isn't a democracy, it's a meritocracy. Those with the
expertise and resources will propose a solution (via a patch or
branch), which peers can review and critique or accept.
