The great thing about simple formats is that you can do all kinds of =
data interchange. You could do your netlist-centric design in a =
spreadsheet. Export to TSV. A modest enhancement to pins2gsch could =
handle attribute columns: use it to make a .sch. Then, you=92d have a =
file that you could feed to gnetlist and export to any of a couple of =
dozen netlist formats. You could freely mix this approach with a =
graphical approach via gschem.

Pins2gsch.awk is only 55 lines, and about half of those are comments.
