Well that would be good too, that only leaves the other direction
(when you're already in line mode), I guess it could snap out of line
mode without notice but that would be a bit weird as well.

It would be lovely to have tooltips for all the menu items, I'd at least
mouse over once to learn what they all do.  As it is there are probably a
bunch of other things that would be useful to me that I don't know about.
If you would like to provide tooltip text for all the menu items I'll look
at adding it to the GUI.  Or maybe there was some reason we don't want
tooltips I remember a discussion but not the details.
