Made this little graph about the situation:

The plot is not accurate, it's rather to show the proportions.
I have absolutely no data about how many users use PCB from OS packages
or how many users are actually reading the mailing list, so I've just put
them on the left in parenthesis.
The rest of the labels are approximetly:
- the actual number of unique visitors according to my server logs on the
footprint generator CGI
- the actual number of donwnloads on the parametric footprint and
scripting videos
- about the number of valid poll votes collected from the mailing list
- the number of users who reportedly downloaded and compiled pcb-rnd.
The 1/x function is just a guess I pulled out of thin air.
I think a static compiled "unpack and run" package could be somewhere
between effort 0.3 and 0.4 on that graph, but we'll see (if I manage to
compile it).
