The difference is: the File->Open dialog is triggered by the GUI for
the GUI, so the GUI knows how to do a GUI-specific file chooser.
The exporters do not know what GUI is available, so do not know how to
bring up a GUI-specific file chooser. Those have to go through the
attributes entry HID call, it's up to the GUI to decide how to ask the
user for values for each attribute. There's a HID_Path type that can
be used, though, if the GUI does something special with it.

If it works for you, put it in your preferences. It doesn't work for
everyone.

We could, if someone wanted to, and figured out to integrate that flag
into the UI. Of course, those with the time to do so (few) usually
prefer a more general solution than that.
