If you want to edit the attribute, you can promote it. If you don’t, why promote it at all? The whole idea of “promotion” is a bit clumsy and confusing. Wouldn’t it be clearer just to have “default” and “edited” attributes? Then there’s a little failure of orthogonal design: gschem cannot edit an embedded symbol.
