I looked at Solvespace when someone mentioned it earlier... it appears
to write STEP, but I didn't get the impression it could read it. Was  I
mistaken?

(PS.. I'm currently wading though STEP assembly construction. Simple
enough in theory, yet really confusing to follow actual examples).
