Yeah, that sounds right - when I was writing the note, I thought it was off a little bit. Although I'd have to put a little bit of thought into this - I think you can make a pretty good temperature reference by taking advantage of Ebers-moll model of a bjt. In regards to Maxim - I've had the same horrid experience with those unobtainium devices. Similarly, on a prior job, the boss came around one day and told us to design them out everywhere :D
