The problem is an problematic mail header "Content preview:"  which
contains more then one line.  This is confusing clients such as gmail to
stop processing headers believing it has reached the body.  The header
including the subject line comes after this header and is misinterpreted as
belonging to the body. When a reply is formed the subject is dropped.

This email has a subject "Re: Missing subject" but if the same header is
still in this email the problem will happen again.  Not sure how to edit
mail headers.
