gEDA is in the FreeBSD ports collection, and is installable trivially
(cd /usr/ports/cad/geda; make install).  It doesn't even have any
associated BSD-specific patches.  Not sure about how NetBSD is set up, but
they probably have a similar ports collection.

The only downside to the BSD port is that they lag a little.  Current
gEDA port is version 1.8.2.
