(I thought you implied that I had). A lot of PCB actions have the "visible only" idiom, and I'm not sure what I think here. Even if we perform the selection on non-visible items (which might be OK IMO), almost all actions which operate on selected objects only do so on visible layers. If you get a chance, try my "for_master" branch, as I would appreciate some testing of the split-colouring changes there. It affects the "F" action, and Auto-enforce DRC rules mode. Now you mentioned Ctrl+F in the 2011 post you linked to, you have reminded me that I will need to test that and see how it works (and think how it _should_ work), with the split-colouring changes.
