It also occurs to me that the UI being largely undocumented is bad but
worse is the absence of documentation for the rc file and basic
command line functions. Has anyone updated the man page lately?

OT: I did not see that any where on the wiki or in the man page. How
do you turn magnetic net mode off in the rc file?
