Having submitted a patch (with Bas Gieltjes) for a serious gnetlist bug in 2010, and having it received with hostility and eventually rewritten to the point that it didn't actually fix the bug, I submit that the hostility of the developer community to real repairs is a much more serious barrier to getting the essential work done than my opinions are.

In other words, your focus is on yourself, just as mine is. The difference is that "ordinary users", using only a limited subset of gEDA's capabilities, have alternatives. Those of us using the breadth and power of gEDA do not.
