The email lets me check to see if you've posted here before, or if I can find you online and you have some relevent presence (i.e. if your email shows up in some other electronics forum or other open-type project). It enables a quick "is this a spammer?" check. If you aren't reading these instructions, you're probably a robot anyway :-) I don't get notifications, so there are some robot accounts in there I need to get around to deleting.
