Sure.
On my gentoo box neither corefonts nor liberation fonts are installed,
while gschem 1.6.2 works fine.
$ emerge -pv liberation-fonts corefonts
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild N ] app-arch/cabextract-1.4 USE="-extra-tools" 218 kB
[ebuild N ] media-fonts/liberation-fonts-2.00.0-r1 USE="X
-fontforge" 2,249 kB
[ebuild N ] media-fonts/corefonts-1-r4 USE="X" 3,843 kB
Total: 3 packages (3 new), Size of downloads: 6,309 kB
But currently I have no idea how to check what font an application
really uses. At least it must be one of the gentoo (Gnome2) base fonts,
I have no extra font packages installed.
