PCB gets really weird though if I try and use the new gnome desktop, but I'm finding a lot of other things are unstable with the new desktop under virtualbox. I go back and check everything with each new release of virtualbox :P > I run the virtual machine without 3D acceleration and keep a copy of PCB > built with GL disabled, which I use only for DRC checks. I came to the same conclusion for using pcb in a linux guest virtualbox.
