OK, I think it *is* actually mostly working (keep reading),
although I do still get errors like 

ERROR: Bad undo serial number 17 in undo stack - expecting 16 or lower
       Please save your work and report this bug.

when trying to undo after using Shift+B.

The reason I thought it was deleted is that if you follow my
instructions exactly, (and have a normal sized screen/default
window size), the element appears to vanish, but if you zoom out
you'll see that the element was not deleted, but just moved out of
the viewable area!

The undo corruption issue is still concerning though.  I'll probably try to
save/exit/restart after using Shift+B in case there is some other
memory corruption or something going on.
