The illustration on the first page resembles DIP but that's just an
illustration to show what the pin connections are.

Always look under "ORDERING INFORMATION" to find the available
versions of parts.

SN74CBT3306 comes in SO but isn't usable for this circuit.

SN74CB3T3306 comes in SSOP and VSSOP where SSOP is slightly larger
with .65mm pitch and .3mm pins vs. VSSOP .5mm pitch and .2mm pins.
