Recently I found that some of my previous mods of m4 footprint library now fail on openSUSE 12.1 (using guile-2.0.2). This was due to the construction like: ifelse(condition, result, define(`variable', `expression1'), define(`variable', `expression2')) It is OK if the script is interpreted, but when compiled it fixes on one of the two possibilities.
