I guess that you have checked out the available footprints stashed away 
here and there in GEDA and that you only need a few specials.  What I 
did was to use a text editor and then check the mess that I usually 
produced using pcb going back to the text file and correcting until I 
got what pleased me.  It sounds complicated but simple once mastered.  
It looks like John Luciani's footprints are no longer available from my 
Browser links and Stwart's footprint file format docs are no longer 
active.  I wonder where they went?  Hope this helps Ian.
