So my steps should be like :

1) Design schematics on gschem with footprint attribute.
2) Then import it to PCB and do designing.

However as a new user to this application I get confused point 1 : on how
to make sure which footprint attribute to use. There should be a reference.

For example : I have added a Diode. Now how to decide upon the footprint
attribute? 99% I have to get footprint from other web source and then point
to that folder ?

Before this I used Protel 2004. I am slightly confused on footprint part.
