Thanks - unfortunately for this board we are limited (for the time being) to the installed version of gEDA/PCB. As a result I'm looking for the "best" way to do this in pcb. The board designer is new to pcb and so is not exactly comfortable with manipulating the text in the pcb file yet. We're trying the footprint approach at the moment but if there's anything better we can give that a try.
