Is there an easy way to design a footprint with a text labels on silkscreen?

All my efforts end up when PCB removes all text, but leaves pure geometry
elements (lines, arcs etc).

I think this is due to the way PCB deals with text labels. It includes a
whole font definition in pcb sketch. When I try to combine all pieces to a
element, it removes all text.

I thought the proper way is to somehow convert text to vector lines.
Am I doing it wrong?

Should I draw text line-by-line by hand?
Should I exclude all text from footprint? And place it only during PCB
design?

And, by the way, is there a possibility to change font? It lacks russian
characters.

Seems like writing my own program that renders all characters with lines to
a table on PCB sheet and then copy-paste them one-bye one is not a bad idea.
