Hello All,

I wanted to try gEDA, but have no experience with Linux.

Currently I have a Win 7 machine (host) that's running Oracle VM
VirtualBox, that's got a virtual machine running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (guest).

In that Virtual Ubuntu I have managed to install and run gEDA Schem based
on the Debian distribution available at the download site.  Seems to work
OK.

I'm just not sure if I should have used the SuSE distribution (or what
would make it matter).

I'd like to continue adding other pieces of the suite, such as PCB, gerbv,
etc. and work my way through a tutorial.  But, before I get too far along,
I'd like to make sure I'm not headed in the wrong direction using Ubuntu.

So, if gEDA has Distribution packages specifically for Debian or SuSE,
would it be necessary (or best) for me to ditch the Ubuntu installation and
start working with a Debian or SuSE installation instead?

Or perhaps there's an additional Linux type that's even better form me to
use in this instance?


Assuming my use of Ubuntu is OK, and my use of Debian distributions is also
OK, are the various maturity releases WRT gEDA or the Debian OS release?
If Debian, what Debian maturity level would be aligned with Ubuntu 12.04
LTS that I'm currently using?

Is there a way to get a distribution packages that contains the entire
suite of tools (gEDA schem, PCB, etc.), or must each tool's package be
downloaded and installed individually?
