| Subject: | [geda-help] Is it possible to convert units mm2mil or mil2mm inside footprint |
| file? | |
| Reply-To: | geda-help AT delorie DOT com |
Hello World!
This is my first message here, today I've subscribed. I'm creating my
first project ever with gEDA suite and the first electronic project I
want to go far till real volume production. I studied a lot of gEDA
documentation, tutorials etc. about gEDA workflow to get things done. I
have to tell that tutorials (youtube videos) and DJ's example projects
are really helpfull also to get started, so thank you about that. I have
a lot of remarks about gEDA workflow and it's learning curve but more on
that in anothertime.
A day before yesterday I have had a problem with automatically generated
footprint of DHVQFN16 package generated by some online footprint
creator. The problem rise when I wanted to additionally edit the
footprint file (clearance and soldermask) by hand. The units used in
that file was mils but I want it to be a mm because I'm from Europe and
package drawing I have on my desk is available in metric units. So I
started to find if PCB can do the work for me or if exists some utility
within the gEDA suite which converts units used in footprint files.
Neither PCB nor utility can't do that. So I started to search at mailing
lists if anybody had solved same or simmilar problem. Also there I found
nothing helpfull. So my first question is:
Is there any program included in the suite which has the capability of
converting footprint units?
If not I've made one by myself if anybody interested. It does the scan
of footprint source file line by line unaware of its format finding some
important unit strings {mil,mm} and converts units from one to another.
It cannot convert old format footprints (centimils units) and batch
conversion is also not yet implemented but it does the job for me for
now. I'm not a good programmer so my second question is:
Is anybody here interested in the source code? If so, where I should
upload it so anybody can beat me for that? :-D
