True, but the main reason I like to have a proper footprint with
pads only on the far side (bottom side for top-mounted TH
components) is because it keeps me from accidentally routing a
trace to the top side pad of that through-hole pin in pcb.  The pcb
program will happily allow it, because it thinks you're going to be
plating through all holes for through-hole components!

I make enough mistakes as it is, so I need all the help I can get
to ensure I don't make any more.
