I also forgot to mention.  The game searches for GetGameAPI in the dll 
at load time.  This consistently failed everytime until I tried 
_GetGameAPI (it's what I saw when I opened the dx3 file manually. After 
that it worked perfectly.

Thanks for the hard work everyone, you've made Quake 2 "modern" in pure DOS!
