Git (or Mercurial or Bazaar) is not overkill for small projects.  It
can be used in precisely the same way as RCS or SCCS for a single file
project, but offers a direct upgrade path to multiple developer,
multiple component, or distributed workflows.

It might be overkill to try to build it in the DJGPP environment
though.
