I don't know about 'the rest of the DJGPP world', but I simply use
a suitable editor (textpad here) and a DOS (or command line)
window. The editor edits (amazing), and the command line window
compiles, either directly or through a make. It also exercises the
result. It can, but I haven't for a year or more, debug with gdb.
I use 4dos, so control is quite easy. I also have aliases and
batch files set up to run various things in independent windows,
such as the info program.
I move between windows with ALT-tab. Rodents are not used.
