I've already posted, 16-bit apps are dead on 64-bit Windows. And so are DOS
boxes and any DPMI apps. The VGA mode is also dead because its optional from
now on and it's unlikely to be supported in the new drivers. So, if DOS
still matters, stay with pre-Vista Windows or just DOS or use virtual
machines with DOS running in them. Nobody should expect any support from MS
on the DOS issues, it's not gonna happen. And btw, these days it's not all
that hard to program for Windows as it used to be some 10 years ago. Lots of
info is available online and in the books. It will be a bit painful in the
beginning, but then it'll be OK.

My personal thinking is it should be skipped as Windows ME or employed later
when the majority of 3rd parties made compatible drivers and applications.
The new MS Office seems to be very good though.
