But that was not actually the message you quoted here, originally.
There was an extra blank in the middle of the word "Unmatched" both in
your OP, and in my quote of it.  You seem to have edited that quote
below.  Even then the exact error messsage is more than just that
phrase: the context in which it was printed is about equally important
as the message itself.

That's seriously unlikely to be the actual reason.  Hyphens have no
particular meaning to make (nor to any other program involved), and
they're certainly not a "quote character" to any of them, and even
less so inside a comment.  So there's no "quote character" to fail to
be matched.
