About Dinkumware:
They still use 2002 library comparison results with gcc 2.95 as
one of the contenders. So I guess the current and especially the
forthcoming 4.0 release of gcc should do much better.

About MS'es C++/CLI:
I am a bit biased torwards the C++ syntax, especially after
testing Walter Bright's "D" compiler a couple of times. But the
C++/CLI guys keep telling us:

"The goals used in the design of C++/CLI were as follows:
Provide an elegant and uniform syntax and semantics ... "

I am still sceptical, but we'll see how it works out.
