That is okay, since DJGPP v2.03 supports only 32-bit offsets into
files.  (The next v2.04 will support one extra bit, which is all that
Windows lets DOS programs use, even on 64-bit Windows filesystems.)

That hardly surprises me, since the standard library is well thought
and its implementation is already very optimized.
