How old? if it's slow, what is its CPU clock speed?  And how many
files are in that directory, anyway?

Can you give examples of those ``normal extensions''?

ls.exe needs to read the subdirectories to compute their size (DOS
system calls always return zero for a size of a directory).

`dir' doesn't tell you all the information that `ls' does.
