I have just noticed something very interesting. The shortcut
which I had set up to command.com and which displayed the icon
of MS-DOS. The one in which SET was read only, still wears
the same icon but now points to cmd.exe. This explains how
SET suddenly became read-write, but leaves a mystery. What
caused the target to change? The other shortcut, C:\_, is
still in place.
