When I start info up in my home directory and this is the stand-alone info
program the system responds with either a warning or error message I'd
like to learn how to clear. The message reads:

info: /home/jdashiel/.info: No such file or directory
:

This is a linux system where this happens and it does not happen when info
is started up from inside of emacs. Is there anywhere I can read how to
fix this error, I notice it doesn't happen on my internet service
provider's shell when I use their version of stand-alone info.
