Nice thing about DJGPP is that porting your application to Linux or Win32 or elsewhere is easier than with some c & c++ compilers, as a result of where DJGPP came from. Considering that Win98se will install on the *latest* 32bit machines and most hardware still has Win9x drivers you'll be waiting for 64bit PC's to become the norm (in usage not in the shops) before 9x transforms into a legacy/nostalgia OS in the way 'pure' DOS has. Think of all those machines from 386 -> P4 that can run DOS or Windows 9x and therefore DJGPP (and probably the DOS allegro for that matter) in the world. It'll take well over a decade before the userbase is so low that we can safely put DOS in the same bracket as CPM (which, as said elsethread, is still useed by some!) You can always look at mingw / cygwin if you're worried though.
