DOS use will shrink with the passing of windows 9x but there's still
freeDOS, and Dr-DOS 7.xx

Never tried DJGPP on them yet, though.

Nice thing about DJGPP is that porting your application to Linux or
Win32 or elsewhere is easier than with some c & c++ compilers, as a
result of where DJGPP came from.

Considering that Win98se will install on the *latest* 32bit machines
and most hardware still has Win9x drivers you'll be waiting for 64bit
PC's to become the norm (in usage not in the shops) before 9x
transforms into a legacy/nostalgia OS in the way 'pure' DOS has.
Think of all those machines from 386 -> P4 that can run DOS or Windows
9x and therefore DJGPP (and probably the DOS allegro for that matter)
in the world. It'll take well over a decade before the userbase is so
low that we can safely put DOS in the same bracket as CPM (which, as
said elsethread, is still useed by some!)

You can always look at mingw / cygwin if you're worried though.
