bzip2 time, maybe?  That has the disadvantage of making individual
content files fairly inaccessible.  It has the advantage that you
won't have to worry about the misuse of PKUNZIP.  You might also
consider ARJ.

I hadn't realized simtel had disappeared already.  Now you will
know just how popular it all is.
