Do a search on google for UPX and then search the archives at
www.delorie.com for UPX issues, if they are applicable to your setup.

It all depends on how old you other C++ compielrs are and which
standard they adhere to.

The C++ standard has required this for a few years now. Allot of C++
compilers are not compliant with the standard and as such you can get
away with it, but with each release of GCC  it adheres to the
standards (C and C++ are different) more than the previous version.

If you want more details on this then have a read of the GCC docs and
have a look at the GCC home page on the web to see if you can find
more info.
