perl is a bit like Bash shell script.  I've not got the hang of either to be
an expert.  From what I can see you can do with perl all that a Bash script
can do plus a lot more.  There are also perl sort of add ons that do all
sorts of clever stuff that I've not got into yet, including yanking stuff
off the   web  There is lots on the subject on the web.  The last time I
looked the dj port did not find all its functions but the Active perl DOS
port did better.  I had the impression that to really use perl you should be
under Unix.
