Sure there is -- there are three routines, in fact:

#include <stdlib.h>
char *ecvt(double value, int ndigits, int *decpt, int *sign);
char *fcvt(double value, int ndigits, int *decpt, int *sign);
char *gcvt(double value, int ndigits, char *buf);

Or you can use sprintf()
