I'd like to see something that works, too :-) I was never able to compile
the Bukin's gs 3.33 itself, I think it used a very old version of DJGPP and
I wasn't interested *that* much in updating old versions. But some of his
code proved very useful in providing correct DOS-DJGPP disk i/o (pdf files,
for example, were only readable *after* I used his patch.. I can't remember
which file exaclty...) .
The current 7.0.5 release might be useful for anyone wanting to print strait
from DOS (it will recognise linux drivers from www.linuxprinting.org). My
goal was to port one of the linux printing platforms to DJGPP (complete with
filters and printcap-configured front end). I did get quite a ways. I got
atop, pstools, ghostscript, several filter packages and foomatic ported, but
stopped when I discovered that DOS printing under NT is next to impossible.
I tried exporting the lpt port using NET USE, but that just creates an
infinite loop as described in:
http://www.cpcug.org/user/clemenzi/technical/NT_DOS_Problems.htm
But A nice VGA-capable default viewer would be a good plus (any NT, W2K, or
XP user will need the VGA ... os restrictions don't allow any other
resolution).
Saturday I plan to update some of my site's downloads, so I might throw it
up for you (same place as the other gs stuff) for you and anyone else
wanting to give DJGPP-ghostscript another crack.
