Sorry, I don't quite get what you want to accomplish.  Care to tell a bit 
more about that submonitor?

Can you show the relevant code fragments that use those?  Is the code you 
are working on taken from some program that works on Unix or GNU/Linux 
systems, or is it code you wrote yourself?
