Oops, now I am confused. How does this fit with

This is the default COFF output file name for djgpp's linker, ld. However,
djgpp version 2 also creates an EXE file, whose default name is a.exe.
The -o option to gcc changes the default output name.

Why is "a.out" the 'default COFF output file name when DJGPP "is *not* an
a.out system"?

And why did aout.h come with DJGPP v1?
