Maybe. Once upon a while D. M. Ritchie wrote

Rememeber: I can't see your face, therefore I can't know if you are
kidding. Worst (at least, for me), English is not my
mother language (in fact, I'm spanish). A lot of times, I don't understand
the jokes or plays on words in English. Some visual help is appreciated,
like a smiley :).
