Wrong.  That's not the definition "for MSDOS", it's the ANSI
standardized escape sequence for terminals.  But MSDOS doesn't respect
these ANSI sequences by default.  If you want them handled, you have
to load the ANSI.SYS device driver, or any of its workalike
replacements (I would recommend NNANSI.COM, which can be used as a TSR
or even in single-shot mode).
