I'm just trying to get this to work on Windows XP Professional version 2002 so I can learn C++. I have been an IT professional for many years but have not done that much programming beyond Assembler on an old VAX, (most of my background is in hardware, networking and databases). I've known my way around DOS since that was pretty much all you had on a little PC.

I started with an older version of the program. It compiled fine but when I tried to run the .exe it said that I didn't have enough memory which is ridiculous for a tiny little test program.

I then deleted the first install and downloaded and installed all of this:
unzip32.exe to unzip the zip files 95 kb

v2/copying.dj DJGPP Copyright info 3 kb
v2/djdev203.zip DJGPP Basic Development Kit 1.5 mb
v2/faq230b.zip Frequently Asked Questions 664 kb
v2/readme.1st Installation instructions 22 kb

v2apps/rhid149b.zip RHIDE 2.4 mb

v2gnu/bnu213b.zip Basic assembler, linker 2.5 mb
v2gnu/gcc32b.zip Basic GCC compiler 2.4 mb
v2gnu/gpp32b.zip     C++ compiler                  2.5 mb
v2gnu/mak3791b.zip Make (processes makefiles) 267 kb
v2gnu/txi42b.zip Info file viewer 725 kb

v2misc/ntlfn08b.zip NT Long File Name support 25 kb

Then after reading the list archives:
I got the 1.5 snapshot of rhide
I edited my AUTOEXEC.NT
I have the PATH correct in the environment

After all that I'm STILL getting:
On an attempt to Compile "Bad command or file name", "no errors"
If I try to Run it I get "Program Exit Code: 0 (0x0000)" and it whurfs...er... crashes

I've tried looking at the pages about getting 2.03 and 2.04 as well as the work around pages and I'll be honest, I have no clue which files I need or what exactly I need to do. I know you are all busy but I could use a little hand holding, if only and email stating "download this, that and the other, delete thisOLD, unzip the other and stick that over there" sort of thing... though a bit more specific with file names and such. ;)

I would really appreciate it if someone could help a girl out, I am totally at a loss at this point.
