I have tried the new RHIDE, but it does the same thing - program hangs.
It must be something stupid in the way my system configured, but I just
cannot figure out what's wrong - I've been using the djgpp / rhide for
2+ years and never had any problems.

Again, I don't understand why the "Step Over" function (F8) does not
work. At least, I should step into the function main() when I press F8
to run the program, but instead on the first press it shows me the same
place in the code where I've been in the editor before starting the
program, and on the second press the PC hangs...

Get my newest RHIDE build for DJGPP from
http://rhide.sourceforge.net/snapshots
It uses GDB-5.2.1 internally (currently newest stable version)

However I cannot of course be sure it will work ...
I'm also not using Watt-32 (haven't even tried it)
