Set the TMPDIR environment variable to point to a directory on that
disk.

You have the single-file version in faq230b.zip, just install that on
your machine and use the HTML version locally (which is also faster).

For that matter, I'd suggest to use the Info version of the FAQ
instead (also in faq230b.zip), since Info readers have superior search
facilities, such as index-searching commands.  The FAQ is extensively
indexed, so that you should be able to find any issue you are looking
for in a matter of seconds.
